A Few of My Favorite Things

Although I love spring and summer, fall is my favorite season. I love slowing down into a season of quiet and contemplation. When the weather begins to cool down, I turn my attention to nurturing my inner life, so that I feel supported, inspired, and encouraged through the months of cold and snow. I indulge in hot apple pie, cups of hot cocoa (with marshmallows!), the joy of Christmas lights, and favorite books that are due to be enjoyed all over again (The Hobbit). Story ideas, song, and poems that were hastily scribbled in the rush of summer may now have time to come to fruition.

One of the best things about this time of year is the reminder to Let Go. As summer lets go into fall and the trees let go their leaves, so, too, there are things I must release. I often walk in the woods, and as I stand quietly among trees and watch leaves dance down from the treetops and land gently on the earth, I’m reminded that it’s safe for me to let go and trust, to trust and let go. I am held by God, and the landing is a gentle one.

I hope you will feel encouraged this fall to contemplate what you might want to release and daily discover what is beautiful and meaningful to you. Enjoy this season!
