Welcome Cori!

2024-03-28

Many of you have met Cori Vivian, who has been a guest preacher twice since she and her husband Alec began attending St. Patrick’s last July. Cori graduated from Louisville Presbyterian Seminary last spring and is discerning her own call to ordained ministry. Cori has particular experience and a sense of call around working with younger people in their faith journey.

Around the time I was first getting to know Cori, I learned about one of the diocesan grant opportunities called the Commission on Congregational Life or COCL. This commission is charged with “encouraging, supporting, evaluating, and seeking opportunities for development and growth” for churches in the Episcopal Diocese of Southern Ohio. In the past year, I’ve seen a budding potential for more family ministry at St. Patrick’s, and, between Cori’s talents and this grant offering, I didn’t want to pass up this opportunity.

I learned this past week that the COCL approved our grant! The grant will cover Cori’s part-time salary for 3 years.

What’s next: On April 14, after the 10:30 service, we will hold an Interest Meeting. This meeting is open to anyone who either a) has a child or grandchild that might participate in a children’s program at St. Patrick’s or b) would like to volunteer or support this program. While Cori is familiar with what has worked in other churches, we’d love to discern what will work best for St. Patrick’s. (If you need childcare in order to attend this meeting, notify Cortney ahead of time.)

A little more about Cori: Cori grew up in Fairfield, Ohio. She attended Miami University where she earned both a bachelors and master’s degree in English Literature. She then worked for her Master’s in Divinity at Louisville Presbyterian Seminary, and it was early in seminary that she and her husband found the Episcopal Church. She has been married to Alec Vivian for 6 years and they will welcome their first child late this summer.
