My 2025 pledge:
Stewardship Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: Who knows how much I pledge?
A: The names and amounts of pledges are kept strictly confidential. The senior warden and treasurer will keep notes of the pledges but no one else (not even clergy) will know both the names and amounts of pledges.
Q: What if something happens and I’m unable to meet my pledge?
A: We know that many things beyond our control can affect our finances so we completely understand if you’re not able to meet your pledge. We simply ask that you contact the treasurer to let us know to anticipate this. As always, if your troubles could use some pastoral care, we encourage you to contact the clergy.
Q: If I plan on giving anyway, what’s the point in filling out a pledge form?
A: Of course we’re thankful for all donations no matter how they come, but by pledging, we can plan better. By knowing how much money to anticipate receiving, we can create a wise budget that reflects our values.
Q: I’ve heard that churches expect 10% of my income- is this true at St. Patrick’s?
A: Tithing, or strictly giving 10% of your income, is a teaching of some churches based on the Bible tale of Abraham presenting a tenth of his war spoils to Melchizedek, the temple priest. It is not the teaching of the Episcopal Church that a strict 10% tithe is expected from all members. But there are many Episcpalians who aspire to that level of giving. We know that family demands and budgets vary greatly and are very personal. We only ask that you prayerfully consider what you can give. We have heard many stories where a parishioner’s generosity didn’t just benefit the church, but strengthened that parishioner’s spiritual grounding and connection to their community.
